Run For Refugees

SWIRC is running the Detroit Marathon to raise awareness of the needs of homeless asylum seekers in our communities. We’ve got a team of clients, volunteers, and staff who are going to run this race together as a relay team. Our Executive Director, Kevin Piecuch, is going to run the whole marathon alongside our relay team!

October 17, the day of the marathon, we’re going to gather to cheer on all our runners and celebrate together!

All proceeds from the event will go to our Safe Harbor crisis housing program. We are renovating a large, neglected home in Southwest Detroit into a vibrant community center. It will feature safe, secure, and stable housing for up to four asylum seekers who would otherwise be homeless or in hiding.

Runners, Join our Relay Team!

Teams of up to five runners will split up the whole marathon into five 3-7 mile chunks. If you want to run the entire marathon with us, that would be great too! Information on the race itself can be found on the Detroit Free Press Marathon website.

Each runner is asked to fundraise $500 from family and friends. This helps us cover race fees and supports Safe Harbor crisis housing.

Supporters, help our runners raise money!

Not up for running the marathon with us? You can still help! Each runner needs to raise $500 for the run. Proceeds help us cover race fees and go to make the Safe Harbor crisis housing program a reality!

You can donate to support a specific runner or commit funds to the team. Any money going to the team will go to everyone’s goal equally.
