SWIRC is ‘Batting’ 19/22 Recent Wins for Due Process.

At the Southwest Detroit Immigrant and Refugee Center (SWIRC), we believe that justice should not be a matter of “if,” but a matter of right. For many individuals in federal detention, the administrative system can feel like a labyrinth with no exit. Recently, our legal team has been utilizing a powerful constitutional tool to break that cycle: the writ of Habeas Corpus.

The Power of 22: A Track Record of Success

Our recent data tells a story of persistence. Out of 22 habeas corpus petitions filed by our team, we have secured 19 successful outcomes. While the legal system often asks families to wait indefinitely for administrative backlogs to clear, these filings represent our refusal to let due process hit a “pause” button.

By bringing these cases before federal judges, we have successfully advocated for the right of our clients to receive bond hearings. This ensures that their cases are heard on their merits rather than being lost in a cycle of jurisdictional delays.

More Than a Legal Metric

While the statistics are compelling, the true impact is measured in reunions. Winning a habeas corpus case means more than a successful court filing. It means a father returning home to his children. It means a neighbor returning to their job. It means restoring faith in a system that can, when held to account, still protect the vulnerable.
