This fall, the Southwest Detroit Immigrant and Refugee Center (SWIRC) is celebrating a big milestone—we’ve helped more than 25,000 clients since 2015! That’s 25,000 people who have walked through our doors with questions, worries, and hopes for a brighter future. And we’re honored to have been part of their journey.
Day after day, our team and volunteers work hard to make sure that immigrants and refugees in Detroit feel supported and welcomed. Whether it’s a parent fighting for their children, a student dreaming of college, or someone finally gaining the peace of citizenship, each story inspires us to keep going.
As our Executive Director, Kevin Piecuch, put it:
“Each person who walks through our doors carries dreams and challenges. To have served 25,000 clients since 2015 means 25,000 steps toward justice, safety, and belonging. We’re proud of what has been accomplished—but even more excited about what’s ahead.”
What’s Next
We’re not stopping here. The needs in our community keep growing, and so does our commitment. SWIRC is looking ahead to new partnerships, more services, and even better ways to support families who are building their lives in Detroit.
Most of all, we want to thank everyone who has been part of this journey so far—our clients, our volunteers, our staff, and our supporters. You’ve helped make this milestone possible.
Here’s to the next 25,000 stories—we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
